Glóandi Jökull | Glowing Glacier Glass Festival is a month-long festival of glass in Hellissandur, with exhibitions, live demos and hands-on workshops. Centered around a mobile glass blowing furnace, the festival highlights glass in contemporary art, engaging locals and visitors to the area with this ephemeral material. The festival runs over the course of a month, all events are free, and open for all.
On the 24th of June, the programme kicks off with the opening of the group exhibition showing contemporary art works by Ólöf & Sigrún Ó. Einarsdóttir (IS), Alison Lowry (IE), Brynhildur Thorgeirsdottir (IS), Carissa Baktay (CA/IS), Jonas Noel Niedermann (DK), Michaela Trávníčková (CZ), Nadja Recknagel (DE), Selina Amelie Weber (DE) and Ida Wieth (DK).The group exhibition is curated by local artist Bjarni Sigurbjörnsson.
Furthermore there will be three solo-exhibitions which all will include live demonstrations of creating the art pieces, making the exhibitions changing during the festival. The exhibitors are: Fiona Byrne (IE), Laura Sonne Lund (DK) and Louise Lang (DE).
The program will be updated live at the website www.glowingglacier.com.
The festival is made possible through the support of our organising partners: Handverk og Hönnun, Samtök Sveitarfélaga Á Vesturlandi, The National Parks Centre Hellissandur, 3 Veggir Gallery, Niesenglass GmBH and glasspool.
